Learning A Foreign Language
Using
Dr. O.'s Method To Fluency

PHASE I

This language learning course is designed to work with any "Self Taught"
Language learning materials that has both spoken (dialogues)
and written materials.

I recommend the "Teach Yourself"
Series of Language Learning Material.
(Links below)

Whichever language learning material you choose,
it is to have the following, for this learning method.

(1)

Spoken Dialogues

and

(2)

Accompanying Written Text Book

This language learning course
is to be done in TWO PHASES

PHASE I

PHASE I is divided into two Sections:

(1)

Intensive Listening

and

(2)

Intensive Speaking

PHASE II

PHASE II is comprised of three sections:

(1)

Intensive Listening

(2)

Intensive Speaking

and

(3)

Intensive Reading / Writing

PHASE I - In Detail

(1)

You are to approach your study
materials in the following way.

For PHASE I you are not to read from
your book
. The book is used in phase II.

(2)

You are to study the units of the language course in
BLOCKS of '3s' per month, until the study material
is finished.

FOR EXAMPLE: If you choose a
language Course that has 16 Units
( Like Teach Yourself Dutch )

MONTH 1 Study UNITS: 1 - 3

MONTH 2 Study UNITS: 4 - 6

MONTH 3 Study UNITS: 7 - 9

MONTH 4 Study UNITS: 10 - 12

MONTH 5 Study UNITS: 13 - 15

MONTH 6 Study UNITS: 14 - 16 **

** See Units 14 & 15 are repeated
again to give a "3 Unit Block".

You are to consider 'one month' to be the
date you start to the next month of that day.

FOR EXAMPLE:

1st month: You start Units 1 - 3:
September 15, 20XX and End October 15, 20XX

2nd month: You Start Units 4 - 6:
October 16, 20XX and End November 16, 20XX

And so on....

THE BEGINNING: PHASE I

DAYS 1 - 9

(a)

You are to listen to your block of 3 units, 3 times per session.

'A session': Is when you have listened to the 3 units / 3 times.

(b)

Listen to the Audio with both ears.

That is: You are to hear the language
material with both RIGHT and LEFT ears.
(Use both headphones)

For days 1 - 9, you are not to repeat out loud, anything!
Even if prompted by audio. Just relax and listen for
3 times per session.

1/3 into the month: PHASE I

10th Day - 15th Day

(a)

You are to listen to your block of 3 units, 3 times per session.

(b)

Listen to audio with both right and left ears.

(c)

Start to repeat out loud as prompted by the audio.

(d)

You are to repeat freely the audio material as you choose,
using your PAUSE button. That is: give yourself as much time as
you need to repeat clearly and try as much as possible to repeat
without your native accent (imitate the native speakers the
best you can).

RESTRICTION:

In the 3 times you listen to the audio in a session:

(i)

For the first run of your 3 unit block -
Listen only - Do not repeat
out loud
....

(ii)

For the second & third runs of your 3 unit
block (to complete a session) - repeat out loud.

That is:
Do not repeat out loud during the
first run of 3 units during the session

Repeat out loud for the last two
runs
of the three units for the session.

One Half into the month: PHASE I

16th Day to End of month

(a)

You are to listen to your block of 3 units, 3 times per session.

(b)

Listen to audio ( for the whole session )
with one ear only (use one headphone).

Then alternate ears for the rest of the month.

That is:
On the 16th day, listen with RIGHT ear.

On the 17th day, listen with LEFT ear.

On the 18th day, listen with RIGHT ear.

And so on....

(c)

After listening only to first run of audio,
repeat OUT LOUD last two runs as prompted by audio.
That is: Listen only the first run, then start to repeat
out loud the last 2 runs, to complete a session.

This is the end (in part) of the
intensive listening and speaking of PHASE I

You are to repeat these exact steps
for each block of 3 units per month.

That is, do the same thing for units 4 - 6 etc..
Until the end of the language material.

Intensive Speaking - PHASE I - Detail

You are to study this part in addition to
the daily listening / speaking as instructed above.

You need only an additional 1 hour per day.

Start this section on the same day
you start your 3 unit block.

Recommended study per day:

(1)

Do your 3 unit block Session, first.

then

(2)

Do this part (intensive speaking).

For the block of 3 units you are studying for the month....

Go through the block of 3 units. You are looking for
everyday dialogues presented within the units.
Choose dialogues that are at least 30 seconds in length
or greater.

Some dialogues are presented as native speakers at a market, cafe;
as business presentations, or other dialogues where the native speakers
speak in the language you are learning.

When you go through the block of 3 units, jot down where
tracks on CD the dialogues that exceed 30 SECONDS are.

With the dialogues jotted down for intensive speaking, you are to....

Memorize 30 seconds of spoken
dialogue per hour per day
.

That is: For 30 seconds of spoken dialogue,
you are to use 1 hour to memorize the speech.

Use your PAUSE button as much as possible, in the length
you feel comfortable and commit the spoken dialogue by
the native speakers to memory - repeating out loud for
the whole hour.

Do this for all dialogues in the block of 3 units.
Approaching it in blocks of 30 SECOND INCREMENTS - ONLY.

Do not worry too much if you don't understand what is being said.
Just learn how to speak it, first. You will understand each word
in PHASE II of this foreign language learning program.

EXAMPLE 1

Dialogue 1 is 1 Minute 15 Seconds in length = 75 SECONDS.

Study:

0 - 30 SECONDS : 1 HOUR / Day 1

31 SECONDS - 60 SECONDS : 1 HOUR / Day 2

** 45 SECONDS - 75 SECONDS : 1 HOUR / Day 3

Total study hours for Memorization logged for Dialogue 1 is 3 HOURS in 3 days.

** Notice, to get a 30 second block, you had to go back
into already memorized material ( SECONDS 45 - 60 ) but
this just reinforces what you have learned.

EXAMPLE 2

Dialogue 2 is 2 MINUTES, 30 SECONDS in length = 150 SECONDS

Study:

0 - 30 Seconds: 1 hour / Day 1

31 - 60 Seconds: 1 hour / Day 2

61 - 90 Seconds: 1 hour / Day 3

91 - 120 Seconds: 1 hour / Day 4

120 - 150 Seconds: 1 hour / Day 5

Total study hours for Memorization logged for 2nd Dialogue: 5 HOURS in 5 Days.

EXAMPLE 3

Dialogue 3 is 1 minute 2 seconds in length = 62 seconds.

Study:

0 - 30 Seconds: 1 Hour / Day 1

31 - 60 Seconds: 1 Hour / Day 2

32 - 62 Seconds: 1 Hour / Day 3

Total study hours for Memorization
logged for 3rd Dialogue: 3 HOURS in 3 Days.

You are to memorize 30 seconds of Dialogue per hour per day.

Do this for all dialogues, until you
finish all the dialogues in the units.

After you finish with dialogues in your three
unit block, use that hour for the rest of the
month ( instead of memorization ), to......

You repeat - repeat - repeat !

You repeat the memorized dialogues in that three unit
block as often as possible within that hour per day.

You are to commit for this additional intensive memorization
/ speaking in PHASE I, one hour only per day.

PHASE II is to be published 8 / 18 / 2010

Last Notes:

If you miss a day of study, just add it and stop at the later date!

You have many resources to help you get started in language learning.

Visit your local library for language/travel materials / Rent Movies
in the language you are learning ; watch shows in the native tongue online.

You can download Software: I recommend Freerip
to help put CD to MP3 - where you can easily rewind /
play from the convenience of your MP3 player.

Good Luck and enjoy your language learning!
